Liverpool’s Nunez and Jota ended their goal droughts and sent Burnley to the bottom of the pile with a 2-0 win at Turf Moor. Nunez scored his first goal in 13 games with a sublime strike from the edge of the box in the sixth minute. Burnley tried to respond but lacked the final touch and Liverpool could have scored more if not for the offside flag, which ruled out goals from Gakpo and Elliott.

The game was put to bed in the last minute when Jota, who had just returned from injury, scored a brilliant goal from a tight angle. The result puts Liverpool two points clear of Arsenal at the top, with a game in hand. Arsenal can reclaim the lead when they play West Ham on Thursday. Burnley are still 19th, five points behind Everton, who are just above the drop zone. Burnley face Villa on Saturday, while Liverpool host Newcastle on New Year’s Day.
