According to the BBC, three US troops were killed and 25 injured in a drone attack on a US base in northeast Jordan, near the Syria border. The US Central Command (CENTCOM) said in a statement that the casualties were caused by a drone attack carried out by “radical Iran-backed militant groups” operating in Syria and Iraq.

This is the first time US soldiers have been killed in the region after Hamas’s 7 October attack on Israel. There have been attacks on US bases in the region but so far there have been no casualties reported by the US army.

US President Joe Biden said that the attack was carried out by “radical Iran-backed militant groups”.

The drone attack is a reminder of the growing threat of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in modern warfare. The use of drones has increased significantly in recent years, and they have been used in various conflicts around the world. The attack on the US base in Jordan highlights the need for better counter-drone technology and the importance of developing strategies to deal with this new threat.

Drone Attack

The drone attack on the US base in Jordan is a tragic reminder of the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and the growing threat of unmanned aerial vehicles. It is important for the US and its allies to develop better counter-drone technology and strategies to deal with this new threat.

The attack was carried out by Iran-backed militants, according to US officials. The drone strike was the first known attack on Tower 22 since the base was established. The soldiers who were killed were sleeping in tents when the site was struck by drones. It is unclear why air defenses failed to intercept the drones.

The drone attack on Tower 22 is part of a series of attacks on US bases in Iraq, Syria, and Jordan by Iran-backed militants. Prior to the attack, US and coalition forces in the region had been targeted more than 158 times, but these prior attacks had mostly been classified as minor due to the lack of serious injury or damage.

In response to the attack, US President Joe Biden vowed to “hold all those responsible to account at a time and in a manner of his choosing”. Republican senators John Cornyn and Lindsey Graham called on the White House to directly target Iran in response to the attacks.
